Storage properties
Overview
The storage properties pane is displayed automatically for the storage selected in the storages navigation pane. Alternatively, it can be opened with the help of the "Show properties" tool from the main toolbar. Depending on the storage type, it may consist of the following sections:
-
Partition information
This section is available only for partition items and includes their basic properties:
-
Start sector – the start of the selected partition.
-
End sector – the end of the selected partition.
-
Count sectors – the total number of sectors occupied by the selected partition.
-
Capacity – the overall capacity of the selected partition.
-
-
File system information
This section is also presented only for partition elements. If the selected partition has a valid file system supported by UFS Explorer, here one can find some basic information about its type and accessibility:
-
Type of file system – the type of file system located on the selected partition (if present and recognized).
-
Result of basic test – the information about the presence of a file system, its condition and availability.
-
Extra recognized technologies – the information about the additional storage technology that may be present on the selected partition or its being a part of a complex storage/composite volume.
-
Label – the label of the selected partition (if applicable).
-
Date/time created – the volume creation timestamp (if its file system is present and recognized).
-
Cluster size – the cluster size for the file system on the selected partition (if present and recognized).

Storage information
This section delivers the basic information about the storage device object, such as a drive, disk image, virtual disk, complex storage, etc. In case of a partition or other logical storage, the information is provided about the storage device object it is located on.
Type – the type of the selected device object (a Windows disk, virtual RAID, disk image, SDL Sparse image, VMware VMDK, VirtualBox VDI, Hyper-V VHD/VHDX, etc.).
Name – the name of the selected device object.
Capacity – the overall capacity of the selected device object.
Sectors – the total number of sectors of the selected device object.
ID – the unique identification information for the selected drive object (hard disk drive, solid state device, USB flash drive, etc.).
Path – the path used by the operating system to access the selected device object.
Data access procedure – the type of procedure used to access a drive object (a hard disk drive, solid state device, USB flash drive, etc.). When a drive has bad sectors or other defects, the direct ATA/SCSI procedure is recommended over the standard one, as it enables control over the reading errors.
-
Storage geometry
This section presents the information about physical geometry of a storage device object. When a partition or other logical storage is selected, the information is related to the storage device object it resides on.
Sector size (bytes) – the physical sector size of the selected storage device object.
Heads – the number of heads for the selected storage device object.
Sectors – the number of sectors per track for the selected storage device object.
Cylinders – the number of cylinders for the selected storage device object.
How to use
Each of the described sections can be opened or hidden using the plus (minus) button next to its name. The information available in each field can be selected and copied to the clipboard using the corresponding combination of keys.
The value for the "Data access procedure" property can be changed by pressing the "Change value" button next to it.
Further information regarding the employment of different procedures for the storage can be found in the Open storage device dialog section.
